We are delighted to announce that Professor Paul Fieldsend-Danks, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Arts University Plymouth, has been elected as the new Director of UKADIA. UKADIA is a grouping of 18 leading specialist arts and design institutions from all regions of the UK and managed by GuildHE, an officially recognised representative body for UK higher education, championing distinction and diversity in the sector.
UKADIA promotes the key contributions of specialist arts institutions to the UK’s growth and prosperity, the value of creative skills to all industries and disciplines, and supports diversity of student choice and experiences in the UK higher education infrastructure.
Professor Paul Fieldsend-Danks takes over from Professor Paul Gough, Vice-Chancellor of Arts University Bournemouth, who held the post for 5 years and is now retiring.
Commenting on his appointment, Professor Paul Fieldsend-Danks said
“Specialist institutions play a vital role in driving the UK’s cultural and creative industries, contributing billions to the economy while equipping students with the skills to solve the complex global challenges of tomorrow. In a period of change and challenge for creative educators, UKADIA’s collective voice is more important than ever in championing our sector’s distinctive strengths. I would like to extend my deepest thanks to Professor Paul Gough for his exceptional leadership and dedication to UKADIA over the past five years. It’s a privilege to build on his legacy, and I look forward to working with UKADIA colleagues to advocate for the transformative power of creative education.”
Dr Kate Wicklow, Director of Policy and Strategy, commenting on behalf of GuildHE, UKADIA and its members said:
“The board would like to offer our most sincere thanks and gratitude to Professor Gough who has led the UKADIA board brilliantly during his tenure as Chair and the incredible work in supporting individual institutions, GuildHE and the wider creative sector. Under Paul’s leadership we released the groundbreaking and much-acclaimed report ‘The Value of Creative Graduates’, setting out the unique impact of creative degrees, pedagogy and evidencing the significant contribution specialist creative institutions make to their regions, both culturally and economically. We wish him all the very best in his retirement.
“We are delighted to welcome Professor Fieldsend-Danks to the role of Chair and look forward to working with him as UKADIA continues to grow and thrive under his leadership and vision.”
